Arrests in Serbia for seven Srebrenica suspects

On Wednesday March 18th Serbian authorities, under instruction of the Serbian war crimes prosecutor Vladimir Vukcevic, arrested seven men for crimes committed during 1995’s massacre in the eastern Bosnia town of Srebrenica. Notwithstanding the near twenty-year delay in achieving these arrests, the justice process from here will be slow so it remains to be seen whether Serbia has the legal capacity or political will to complete trials. But it is at least a welcome symbolic gesture of the changing political climate in Serbia, a state that denied the scale of the massacre until 2004.
