The ‘Dilemmas of Civil Society’ workshop was held at Emmanuel College 25th-27th March, part of the YouCitizen ERC project. The event was organised by Alex Jeffrey, Lynn Staeheli (Durham) and Sandy Marshall (Durham) and attendees included Merje Kuus (UBC, Vancouver), Richard Boyd (Georgetown, Washington DC), John Clarke (Open University), Joe Painter (Durham), Anna Secor (Kentucky), Emma Mawdsley (Cambridge), Jouni Hakli (Oulo, Finland), Briony Jones (Swisspeace) and Dan Hammett (Sheffield). The discussions were interdisciplinary and invigorating, addressing a range of normative, ethical and political questions relating to civil society. It was superb to start thinking about cross-cutting themes emerging from the YouCitizen project.
The aim is to bring the papers together to form a special issue of a relevant journal– more information will be published as it emerges.
